Hello and welcome to the SW-ASTE 2010 Website!
It will be my great pleasure to welcome you to the Oklahoma State University campus October 15-17, 2010. Guests will stay at the historic Atherton Hotel located on the OSU campus just a few walking steps from the conference events in Willard Hall.
While Stillwater will be a reasonable driving distance for some of you, others of you may choose to fly in to the Oklahoma City Will Rogers Airport. You might want to rent a car, but we can also provide van transportation to Stillwater and back to the airport – just let us know your travel schedule!
The SW-ASTE 2010 conference theme “Taking Collaborative Action” is expected to encourage dialog on new opportunities for improved preparation and support of science teachers in the Southwest ASTE region. We look to conversations among a wide range of colleagues who contribute to the growth and development of science teachers. Collaborative institutions and educators might include community colleges, historically black institutions, educational service centers, alternative certification providers, scientists, engineers, classroom teachers and administrators.
With this conference year, the SW-ASTE Board wishes to increase and expand the diversity of our membership and generate new, exciting possibilities that address SW-ASTE regional concerns related to science teacher preparation and ongoing professional development. Please think about proposing conference papers that tell of your experience in these endeavors! Think, too, about bringing a collaborative partner (and new SW-ASTE member) with you!
Our conference events will include the usual options for exchange of research and camaraderie as well as some OSU traditions (Hideaway Pizza, Eskimo Joe’s and “the strip”). We especially look forward to a festive Star Party – Cowboy Style on Saturday evening! Sunday morning events will include an Executive Board meeting and Graduate Student Round Tables. These topics are intended to support the professional development of graduate students (i.e. preparing a vita, getting published).
I look forward to hearing more from you about possible round tables, research papers. Please let me know if I can be of any further help in getting you to OSU in October!
Regards,
Dr. Julie Thomas
